Day 21: Portland, Maine: Cape Elizabeth, Seafood, Moose!
Today the plan was to head to Maine, but Joey had been promised a quick trip to Dunkin Donuts first. Unfortunately, there was no quick trip! The line was almost out the door, and it seems that is apparently the norm!
Our first stop was Fort William Park and the Portland Headlight at Cape Elizabeth. This is the run down Goddard mansion. It was so neat and eerie to see it completely overrun with trees and bushes.
The views were beautiful. The weather was also perfect! It was a crystal clear day and the temperature was perfect for walking.
Apparently, this is the most photographed lighthouse in Maine. The boys had so much fun exploring the rocky area below the cliff path. We found an old lobster cage and Joey enjoyed pretending to take it out to sea,
We headed into the port area of Portland for lunch/dinner. We all had some yummy seafood and were stuffed. We walked around the area a bit and then drove around Portland a bit to get a feel for the town. There were so many beautiful historic homes!
This area of the wharf had several different tributes. They had a couple segments dedicated to Veterans, the Berlin Wall, and a fence with love locks.
This dog was MASSIVE and the boys loved getting to pet him. He truly was a gentle giant.
This is what happens almost every day on the ride home.
On our way back we saw a moose!!!! It was hard to get a good picture, but the kids were so excited! So were all the other drivers, as there were several cars that had pulled to the side of the road to see the moose.
Maine is on my bucket list for sure! Beautiful photos! We can't wait to see you!
