Day 32: Lower Manhattan, Empire State Building
Subway ride!!!
We kind of bribed Joey. Told him he could go on the Sea Glass Carasole if he didn't complain the rest of the day. It worked for most of it!
We walked down to the end of Battery Park. The kids found vents that blew ocean air up from the ground. They thought it was hilarious.
Letting the boys run through the fountains before the real walking begins.
Castle Clinton used to be a fort on an island. At some point, land was added to the area and the fort was joined with the Battery Park area. It has been everything from a fort, to an entertainment center, to an aquariuam over the centuries. They have now returned it to what it was like as a fort.
New York Stock Exchange
Federal Hall. This is the sight of Washington's first inauguration. The building is not the same, but they saved the stone that he was standing on when inaugurated. They also hold the Bible that was used at his inauguration.
A trip to New York would not have been complete without eating hot dogs from a cart!
One World Trade Center
The World Trade Center Memorial site was beautifully done.
Old Seaport Village and the Brooklyn Bridge. We were exhausted, and thankfully found this pier area! It was the perfect place to view the Brooklyn Bridge! After staying here for a little rest, we headed to walk the bridge. It was TIRING! We had done so much walking and the kids weren't thrilled.
After the Brooklyn Bridge, we caught the subway to the Empire State Building. We debated whether or not to do this activity, but decided it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. It was well worth it. The views from the top, at sunset, were incredible and indescribable. You can get a full scope of the city from up there. It was amazing to be able to look down and see all of the places we had been over the last few days!
The shiny tall building in the back is One World Trade Center. To the right of that is the Statue of Liberty and upfront is the Flat Iron Building.
Bekah really wanted to visit Macy's. We raced over and made it just in time to ride the historic escalator.
Another wonderful day! The Brooklyn Bridge and the view from the Pier was so much fun, and I highly recommend taking in the Empire State Building at Sunset! The views are gorgeous!
