Day 14: Albany, NY and Cooperstown

We had to check out of our Air BnB super early.  We needed to get to Albany, NY for our capitol building tour at 1:00 p.m.  We got there in time, but the capital complex was one of the most complicated areas we've been to!  Because it was a Saturday, tours weren't in the traditional location but started in an underground concourse.  Thankfully, we found it!

The New York Capitol Building was amazing.  They had multiple architects on the project over several decades.  This led to multiple different designs throughout the building.  The design was very intricate, primarily in the carving of the stone.  The stonework was amazing.

The Senate chamber was incredible.  The fireplaces were faux and always were.  They wanted to design the place like a castle, hence the fireplaces.  The fireplaces are now used as conference areas, since the rest of the room has excellent acoustics and all conversations can be heard in the upper seating areas.

When Theodore Roosevelt came into the governor office, he immediately stopped the building project.  So, if you look throughout the building, you will see unfinished carvings.  The stonemasons literally stopped what they were working on, and the project was not worked on again.

This multi-level magnificent stair case cost 1.5 million dollars to build.

Cooperstown! Baseball Hall of Fame.  I was fully anticipating that Cooperstown would be in a bustling area. It was not.  It was a super cute town, in what felt like the middle of nowhere.  I could tell Jeremiah was super excited to be here.
We found out supposedly why Cooperstown was the hall of fame town.  The theory is that Cooperstown is where baseball as we know it was created.

 Honoring the women of baseball.
Of course Joey would love the mascots!
 Go Dodgers!

Close to the same size as the shortest player ever!

Bekah loved this quote, "Baseball is ballet without music."

The kids should adjust really well when we get home, we have had SO many midnight nights, and dinners past nine o'clock!  When we were leaving Cooperstown we saw a field that was covered in fireflies.  It was a beautiful sight that I wish I could have captured on camera.  It reminded me of the image I have always carried from when I was a child at my grandparents in Ohio.
