Day 41: Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Air and Space Museum, Washington Monument, Junior Ranger Badges

Today we visited the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.  We took a tour, but again, no photos allowed.  Money is only printed in D.C. and at a location in Texas.  It was crazy to see the money stacked and being cut!

Our next goal was the Washington Monument.  Unfortunately, it was under construction, and so we weren't able to go all the way up to it.  Because it was so hot, we opted to just take a picture here, but it was too bright so no one wanted to look either.
Our next goal was the Air and Space Museum, but along the way, we went passed the Agricultural Department and they had a farmer's market.  Great for a few free samples, cold water, nectarines, and empanadas for lunch!  They had a cute area outside that provided blankets and stumps to sit on.

The original Smithsonian called the Smithsonian Castle.

The real Wright brothers plane and Amelia Earhart's plane.
A strange flying machine from WWI.

Finally, a hands-on area for Joey!

As we left the Air and Space Museum, the sky looked ominous.  We had goals of seeing a few more things at the American Museum (particularly the Star Spangled Banner) and needing to get back to the monuments to turn in the kids Junior Ranger packets.  We walked the fifteen minutes as fast as we could to the museum, and made it with no rain!  When we were done, Chris went and got the car, which was AMAZING.  He picked us up and then we jumped out of the car by the WWII and Washington Monuments to find a ranger.  A ranger, fearing the rain, was running up the path with a bag of junior ranger badges!  He was kind enough to do the ceremony on the spot!  The rain started after we were back in the car! Yay!

  1. I love your choices of the Air and Space and History Museum at the Smithsonian...I believe those were the very ones we took you to as well. Your trip is so wonderful...I know the children will appreciate this in the years to come!
