Day 3: Santa Fe, New Mexico to Winfield, Kansas

We said good-bye to our gracious host, Dorothy, and then got on the road about 8:30 a.m.  We had a long drive ahead of us.  Our goal was to be to Winfield, Kansas to see our friends, the Harpers, by 7:00.  Unfortunately, we forgot about the time change in our calculations.
Joey has had a mild obsession with "gorfiteers."  So, when we realized that Cadillac Ranch near Amarillo would be on our way, he was so excited to get to spray paint and not go to jail!  Jeremiah did an entire wheel gold, which probably lasted ten minutes before the next person came and painted over it.  Unfortunately, most of the cars were in a puddle of water, which made it impossible to reach them.

Our next stop was the Oklahoma Capitol in Oklahoma City.  Part of the building was under renovation, and we barely made it in before it closed, but we can check it off the list!

We arrived in Winfield around 8:30 p.m.  The Harpers were so gracious to wait for us and served us a delicious spaghetti dinner.  The kids had their first experience with fireflies as we sat on the porch and caught up with some wonderful friends we haven't seen since they were our college group leaders!  Such a blessing.  What I'm already loving most about this trip is getting to connect with friends we haven't seen in a long time.
